From Gorn Battles to Romances: Strange New Worlds S3 Teases

Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. As seen in the trailer, Season 3 premieres July 17, 2025, with new episodes arriving every Thursday on Paramount+ through September 11, 2025. In a recent announcement from Paramount+, it was revealed that this will be a season of varied genres, bringing more stories of faith, courage, and heart to the series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Trailer

Season 2 of Strange New Worlds recently concluded last month on Paramount+. As noted in our recap, the second season finale left the Enterprise in the middle of a battle with the Gorn. The Federation colony world was being invaded by the Gorn at the time. Unfortunately, during the mission, several Enterprise crew members were captured by the Gorn along with other colony survivors. At the end of the second season, Starfleet ordered Pike (Anson Mount) to stand down from the mission. Pike knew in his heart this wasn9t the right choice, so in typical Pike fashion, he disobeyed orders and went back for the Enterprise crew. The official trailer for Season 3 picks up directly from where the second season left off. In the first teaser, Pike is addressing his crew in the ship corridors as the Gorn attack continues in space around the Enterprise.

This new trailer once again shows the Enterprise in a high-intensity space battle against the Gorn attack. The season 3 trailer confirms that this story will be coming to a close. We also see a glimpse of another enemy in this trailer, setting up a new challenge for the Enterprise crew. Additionally, a lot of the trailer shows the crewmates in non-tense moments with each other, including one interesting romance subplot, and dealing with the after-effects of a science experiment gone wrong.

In this latest trailer, we also get to see Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk for a few minutes. Wesley takes over the captain9s chair during one part of the trailer. The moment features a pep talk from Pike to Kirk before giving up the seat. In the scene, Pike says, 2809cThe choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.2809d While we do not know for sure what the role of Kirk will be in Season 3, it will be important to his character development. This will give audiences a sneak peek into the future captain of the Enterprise.

The last portion of the trailer seems to be a reference to Spock9s (Ethan Peck) return to engineering. A lone Kirk is walking in the hallway when Spock walks up and is confused why Kirk is in engineering. Kirk then says, 2809cHold up, give me a moment. I think I am on to something.2809d The camera then pans down, showing what Spock is holding. It is then revealed to be an alien tentacle. In a callback to the season premiere, Spock gives Kirk the high-five Vulcan salute, which he perfects only for Kirk to then attempt and try the classic 9too slow9 move. The Vulcan stands there with a confused expression and asks Spock, 2809cWhy would you do that?2809d To which Spock responds, 2809cBecause you are too slow.2809d

Guest stars on the series will include Cillian O9Sullivan as Dr. Roger Korby, a character originally played in Star Trek: The Original Series by Michael Strong. The show9s timeline reveals Dr. Korby as a noted archaeologist, archaeologist-in-training, medical archaeologist, and the long-lost former fiance9 of Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush). His wife reuniting with Chapel will no doubt create a huge conflict on the ship and make for great drama, especially as Chapel has developed a relationship with Spock.

The show will also feature appearances by Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt. This will mark Oswalt9s second time starring in a Star Trek show after guest-starring on Star Trek: Picard as Sybok. This trailer and other various tidbits from the show have confirmed that the next season will have a lot more genres outside of space opera than the previous Star Trek series. Rhys Darby has a comedic history with Star Trek, as he is best known for his role as Rhys in the fan film Star Trek: New Voyages, which began as a parody before eventually moving into a proper genre.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 will have a weekly release schedule, debuting its first episode on July 17, 2025. New episodes will then premiere every Thursday on Paramount+ for the next 11 weeks. The season finale will air September 11, 2025. The cast will return and feature the usual main and recurring cast members. The third season of Strange New Worlds has currently renewed for a fourth season.
