Jurassic World Rebirth: Forbidden Island Holds Dark Secrets

Universal Pictures has dropped the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, premiering July 2, 2025. The trailer gives fans one last preview of the film before it launches into theaters over the Fourth of July weekend. This newest Jurassic World film is set to reboot the series but still retains some core connections to the franchise’s roots, including a return to the site of the first Jurassic Park and a star-studded cast led by Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali.

Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series and the seventh overall in the Jurassic Park franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film of the same name. Gareth Edwards returns to direct this installment after helming the similarly mammoth-pegged 2014 Godzilla film. David Koepp has written the screenplay and also marks a return to the franchise after having penned the scripts for the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World (1997).

Official Synopsis and Details

The synopsis for Jurassic World Rebirth from Universal reads: “Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecosystem no longer supports dinosaur life, which has since been funneled into isolated pockets around the equator that resemble their original habitats. Three of the largest dinosaurs on land, sea, and sky reside in a single tropical biosphere on the verge of being dismantled. And each contains genetic material that a biotech company believes can unlock a new generation of miracle drugs.”

Scarlett Johansson stars in the film as Zora Bennett, a black ops specialist charged with leading an extraction team on a secret mission to recover that genetic material. Mission sabotage leads to an intersection between their operation and that of a family of vacationers on a boating trip that goes wrong when one of their ships is attacked by aquatic predators. The survivors soon discover that they are shipwrecked on a mysterious island abandoned for decades, but used by the first Jurassic Park as a top-secret research facility. The trailer suggests there are more than a few ancient secrets on the island with which our heroes will have to contend.

Lead and Supporting Cast

In addition to Johansson and Ali, Jurassic World Rebirth stars Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical company representative with some shadowy motivations. Jonathan Bailey also stars as paleontologist Henry Loomis, while Manuel Garcia-Rulfo plays Reuben Delgado, the head of the boating family whose excursion ends in disaster. The three children of the Delgado family are played by Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda, while Bechir Sylvain is also on the recovery team.

Joining Johansson and Ali on the mission are Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge in roles that have not yet been confirmed. Other characters mentioned in the trailer include Maria, played by Gabriela Fernandez, Daniel Bennett, played by Tim Guinee, Chris Pratt, a helicopter pilot played by Louis Ochoa, and Gerard.

Final Trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth 2025

There’s not much new material in the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth; most of the footage is recycled from the first trailer released in February. However, the few new shots offer a nice reorientation to the major plot points and key themes. The trailer opens in medias res with a new sequence involving a lab worker in a hazmat suit who is cornered by a hungry T-Rex. “Call for help!” the scientist shouts as it’s already too late. The action sequence that follows is a nice primer for what fans can expect: non-stop action and classic dinosaur carnage with a new layer of high-octane suspense.

One of the biggest set pieces teased in this trailer is an attempted heist of a pterosaur egg. “It’s a flying carnivore the size of an F-16,” one character notes. Audiences will recognize the majestic pterosaur as Quetzalcoatlus northropi, a favorite of dinosaur enthusiasts. Viewers also get to see the franchise’s iconic raptors once more, as well as one new dinosaur for the record books: the mosasaur. In one line of dialogue, an island with a crashed ship is used to quarantine “the worst of the worst,” or, in other words, dinosaurs.

Jurassic World Rebirth aims to reset the franchise’s clock but doesn’t shy away from classic tropes that fans expect. Rebirth returns to the island of the original Jurassic Park research and development facility, which will hopefully pull at nostalgic heartstrings. Simultaneously, the emphasis on new enemies and locales (this time on the high seas) will hopefully reinject some unpredictability into this high-stakes dinosaur narrative. Action fans will be happy to know that the trailer teases several low-probability escapes, some of them via CGI characters being attacked by prehistoric predators.

Scarlett Johansson is cut from a more hardcore, tactical cloth than some of the franchise’s other headliners, and it will be interesting to see her approach the oft-repeated dinosaur survival story.

Jurassic World Rebirth is set to open nationwide in theaters on July 2, 2025.
