Chamber Announces New Council for Latino Businesses
The Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce has announced plans to launch a Latino Business Council on January 4, 2027. The initiative aims to expand services, advocacy, and networking opportunities dedicated to Latino business owners and operators in Northern Nevada.
Purpose and Goals of the Latino Business Council
According to the chamber, the new latino business council will work to increase membership among Latino business owners and operators. The council will also develop business programs designed to address the distinct needs of these businesses and promote economic development in the region. A council manager will be appointed to oversee activities and select representative members from Latino businesses and organizations throughout the area.
Council Structure and Membership
The chamber's CEO, Ann Silver, highlighted the significant role that Latino businesses play in the Washoe County economy. She stated, "The establishment of the Latino Business Council is a timely addition to our Chamber given the strong presence of Latino business owners, employers and employees in Washoe County. Hard work, entrepreneurial skills and financial acumen have enabled these businesses to expand, thrive and focus on the economic engine that is local commerce."
A dedicated Latino Council Manager will convene and select a council that effectively represents Latino businesses and organizations in the region.
Services for Latino Business Owners
The Latino Business Council will provide access to many of the Reno Sparks Chamber’s existing services. These include educational forums, business networking events, marketing opportunities, and business advocacy programs. Council members will also be able to join the chamber’s association health, childcare, and 401(k) plans. This approach seeks to deliver comprehensive support and resources tailored to latino business owners.
Advocacy and Community Focus
The council’s efforts go beyond services and membership. It will develop new programs to recognize the economic and cultural contributions of Latino businesses in the region. The council will advocate for public policies affecting Latino business owners at the local, state, and federal level. Specific areas of focus include education, workforce development, child care, economic development, housing, and transportation.
Chamber Background and Community Role
The reno sparks chamber has served the business community for over a century and currently claims more than 2,200 members, collectively employing over 110,000 individuals. The chamber is also involved in partnerships with more than 40 regional businesses and is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Committee of 100. The planned Latino Business Council represents a new strategic direction aimed at boosting business networking and latino business services in Northern Nevada.
